I organised two successful public events: ‘The Care of Older People in Norfolk’ in Norwich on 16 September 2011 and ‘Older People and their Carers: Perspectives from Britain and Japan’ at the University of East Anglia (UEA) on 23 March 2012, with support from the Community University Engagement East (CUE East) and the Centre for Japanese Studies, UEA. Each event gathered almost a hundred people from all sectors from Britain and Japan and attracted media attention. Invited speakers included Norman Lamb MP who talked about ‘Policy issues: local and national initiatives’.
Public Workshop: ‘OLDER PEOPLE AND THEIR CARERS: PERSPECTIVES FROM BRITAIN AND JAPAN’ was held on 23 March 2012 at the University of East Anglia (UEA) with support from the Community University Engagement East (CUE East) and the Centre for Japanese Studies, UEA, organised by Mayumi Hayashi.

Public Event: ‘THE CARE OF OLDER PEOPLE IN NORFOLK: DISCUSSING EXPERIENCES, PROBLEMS AND WAYS FORWARD’ was held on 16 September 2011 at The Assembly House, Norwich with support from CUE East and UEA, organised by Mayumi Hayashi.
The aim of the Event was to share and discuss people’s experiences of care and Hayashi’s CUE East project’s findings. The Event involved older people, carers, representatives of partner organisations (e.g. Age UK Norfolk & Norwich, Norfolk LINk, Norfolk Older People’s Forums and local community groups) and students and researchers from universities in Britain and Japan. Speakers include: Joyce Hopwood, Chair of the Norfolk Older People’s Strategic Partnership Board & Chair of Norwich Older People’s Forum; Bob Russell of Age UK Norwich; Jeanne Norman from Norwich and District Carers Forum & Norfolk Counselling & Learning Matrix (C.A.L.M.); and Joanna Crown, a family carer.
My research and the Event made the headline of Eastern Daily Press, 2 September 2011
